Groundcare mowers are used across a number of different industries and organisations.
Read More (Groundcare Mowers)Municipal organisations use them to keep our grassy public spaces in good condition, and golf courses must use a variety of mowers to keep the fairways, greens and rough in the best order for golfers. In between, there are any number of private companies or contractors that work hard to keep their grounds in good shape. Many companies, such as John Deere, offer groundcare mowers for both the professional and domestic markets. Indeed, there is an element of crossover on the market, with large-capacity ride-on mowers being used for extensive private gardens and also on public areas. The areas of differentiation in groundcare mowers lies in the size, the set-up of the mowing units and the orientation of these units. Many groundcare mowers, for example, will be self-powered and of the ride-on variety, with 'outfront' mowing configuration where the mowing unit is placed to the front of the vehicle. This simple set-up is effective and gives the operator a good view of the mowing action. The mowing units, however, may also be mounted amidships or to the rear. A major consideration is the actual width of the mowing area. Clearly, the wider the mowing area is, the lower the number of passes that have to be made in order to mow any given area.
Care should be taken, however, to ensure that the groundcare mower vehicle has sufficient power to deliver an efficient mowing action over the entire area.
There are also some specialist groundcare mowers to handle specific jobs, such as mowing across slopes. These have specially studded wheels to grip the surface and provide traction on the slope. Other features to look for in addition to the cutting deck are four-wheel drive, steering mechanisms like crab steer and power steering to make manoeuvring easier.
On this last point, the turning circle of the groundcare mower should also be checked to make sure it can effectively operate in the types of working environments for which it is intended. Some groundcare mowers will also offer features such as a power take-off (PTO), which will allow the machine to use other implements and thus extend the utility of the vehicle into other areas.
