Caterpillar Launches Grid Code-Compliant Generator Sets
Caterpillar has announced new generator sets that are verified to comply with grid code requirements in the UK, Germany, and Belgium. The fully tested gensets use hardware and software to ensure a safe, stable connection to the public electric grid in those countries.
“As growth in distributed energy and other factors increase the risk of instability on electric utility systems, nations and grid providers are tightening grid code requirements,” says Caterpillar New Product Development Manager Jennifer Fassnacht. “They’re being developed and expanded in response to growth in renewables and other risks to grid stability.”
More To Come
The grid code-compliant Caterpillar gensets are models G3500H, CG132B, CG170, and CG260, rated from 280 to 4,500 kilovolt-amperes. They comply with the UK’s G99, Germany’s VDE-AR-N 4110, and Belgium’s C10/C11 technical requirements.
“Caterpillar is continuing to review grid code standards across Europe,” says Fassnacht. “Maintaining well-timed global compliance is important to Caterpillar to ensure that our customers avoid uncertainty when connecting grid networks.”
Caterpillar plans to announce certifications for additional countries’ grid requirements this year.
