New Holland To Showcase New T7.270 Methane Power CNG Tractor At Agritechnica 2023
New Holland will debut the latest addition to its portfolio of alternative fuel tractors, the T7.270 Methane Power CNG, in November at Agritechnica 2023. The compressed natural gas tractor is an evolution of the methane engine used on the T6.180 Methane Power that matches the power and performance of the T7. Production of the T7.270 Methane Power CNG is set to begin at New Holland’s Alternative Fuels Centre of Excellence in Basildon, UK, in the second half of 2024.
More (Green) Power
The new tractor is based on the T7 with PLM Intelligence platform and is powered by the NEF 6.7-litre methane-fuelled engine currently used in the T6.180 Methane Power tractor but with higher output. The T7.270 Methane has a maximum power rating of 270 horsepower (199 kilowatts) and peak torque of 1,160 newton-metres (855 pounds-foot).
Increased Productivity
The methane power CNG tractor is designed for maximum productivity and fully uses the T7’s large chassis with 1,265 litres (219 kilograms) of onboard fuel storage, which is a 178% increase over the T6.180 Methane Power’s capacity of 455 L (79 kg). That extra fuel storage gives the T7.270 Methane more power to work with larger implements and enables the tractor to work longer between refuelling. Methane doesn’t require a selective catalytic reduction system, which means the tractor has more space for fuel storage and the tractor can use all methane and biomethane from livestock manure and slurry, which makes it ideal for biodigester operators.
The T7.270 Methane is equipped with a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that reduces fuel consumption and provides a smoother ride. The tractor has new cab supports and a relocated battery to the left side to make way for the larger gas tank. Inside the Horizon Ultra cab, operators have a quiet interior with only 66 decibels to help reduce fatigue and 8% more space to increase operator comfort. The T7.270 Methane has New Holland’s PLM Intelligence features, which enable 2-way transfer of machine and field data from the tractor to the MyPLMConnect online portal for monitoring and support.
“We believe it is strategically important to invest in methane, and especially biomethane, to offer buyers the best alternative fuels for the future,” says New Holland Agriculture Brand President Carlo Lambro. “Demands for more power to make tractor operations more efficient continue to grow. New Holland’s approach is to fulfil these demands while helping customers maximize profitability, matching this with the requirement for an alternative to diesel to meet the need for sustainability in the sector.”
