John Deere 6250R Tractor & KUHN Gyrorake GA 15131 Rake Set New Windrowing World Record
A dairy farm in Denmark’s Central Jutland region was the site of a recent world record-breaking effort for grass windrowing. Established August 26, the record involved a John Deere 6250R tractor paired with a 14.7-metre KUHN Gyrorake GA 15131 quad-rotor rake that together raked 188.9 hectares of grass across four fields in eight hours. The companies documented the effort in a video posted to YouTube.
Tractor & Rake
Deere credits the 6250R’s “light weight, strength, and ‘smart’ features” as keeping “productivity at the highest level, even in hilly conditions,” during the effort. The Stage IV-compliant 6250R tops Deere’s 6R Series of midsized tractors, which includes 11 models ranging from 110 to 250 horsepower of rated power. The Gyrorake GA 15131, meanwhile, is part of KUHN’s Semi-Mounted series, which joins KUHN Mounted Gyrorakes and the Merge MAXX 950 Belt Merger model. The GA 15131’s front rotors are each equipped with 13 tines, and the rear rotors 15.
Germany’s DLG Test Centre validated the record after recording numerous spot measurements. The effort included an average output of 23.6 hectares per hour. Deere says the tractor’s IPM (Intelligent Power Management) feature helped out by providing up to 300 horsepower of maximum power in hilly field conditions.
Where Credit Is Due
Deere also credits the 6250R’s “unrivalled” 31-kilograms/horsepower power density, AutoTrac guidance system, Gen4 CommandCentre console, and CommandPRO joystick as helping reach a 22km/h maximum operating speed while obtaining a high 32-hectare-per-hour productivity level. Mikael Skeldal, who runs the dairy farm with his family, operated the tractor and rake, and says he benefited from the CommandPRO joystick, ISOBUS compatibility, and ability to monitor operations on a KUHN CC1 1200 terminal.
